6 Tips and Tricks To Get Any Job

With the daunting and bleak economy situation sweeping globally, one need to be on their toes constantly just to stay employed. With the correct strategy and mindset, one definitely need not worry about getting a job to escape this current predicament. Here, we have come out with several tips and tricks (T&T) for you to get any job you ever wanted:

T&T #1. Prepare a world-class resume
An ideal or world-class resume is a must for all job seekers actively seeking a job. You have got to be unique in the eyes of the employer. Often overlooked, this is your number 1 selling point. It is synonymous to the price tag for a shirt in a boutique outlet. Be colorful. Be wacky. Stand out from the rest by inserting a cover letter. However, the rule of thumb here is not to overdo and stick to the general public view on it by approaching close friends and relatives and get them to review your resume.

T&T #2. Post your resume everywhere
Even though it sounds redundant, not posting your resume everywhere is not going to land you a job. Be desperate about it. Sell/promote yourself like you really need it. Inform close friends, business people you met, relatives and etc about your desire to find a job every time. Post your resume in job sites, blogs, public forums, social network sites and even classifieds to increase your chances of being seen by someone. The law of average simply states that the more you try, the better your chances are.

T&T #3. Follow-up with employers
This is one thing that many if not all job seekers tend to overlooked. Following up with employers is crucial in determining your chances of nailing the job you dreamt of. Again, the rule of thumb to remember here is to follow-up immediately after the interview. “Thank you” note has to be sent out the day itself so that employers will feel appreciated and tend to remember you. Next, give them some time (approximately 3-4 days or a week depending on employers) and then follow-up again on your status. Always remind them to keep your application in view. With the right approach, chances are they will remember and subsequently hire you.

T&T #4. Attend job and career fairs
With abundant such fairs around nowadays, not attending these fair would be a waste. Career fairs like Malaysia Career & Training Fair (MCTF) in Mid Valley, MCA Job Fair in Wisma MCA and the most recent one Karnival Kerjaya & Keusahawanan Graduan in PWTC are excellent avenues to get expose to career opportunities. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, you never know that one day you might end up being a CEO for the company/organisation that you approached when visiting these fairs.

T&T #5. Participate in personal building workshops
Another issue often taken for granted is personal building. One’s character, personality, leadership, learning ability and soft skills can be sharpen to enhance employability. Ultimately, these skills can be the difference between a good employee and a great one. Even though certain seminars and talks can be quite costly, it is a good investment for your future. There are also a few free-of-charge ones. Look out for these events in the newspapers, Internet and through word of mouth. Be fussy and select only the best ones that are worth going.

T&T #6. Pick up relevant skills today
Unless you are a born genius, you cannot master all the skills relevant to the working world. Useful and employable skills like proficient in various languages, computer software and hardware skills and technical skills in your field come a long way in fine-tuning yourself to be a perfect employee. For art and talent enthusiast, you can brush up on different skills other than your niche like animator, comic illustrator, fashion designer, voice over/narrator, dancer, musician and many more. It is never too late to start picking up a skill.
