1st Asia Women Business Power Conference
"In current times, it is not what you know but who you know and the network that you belong. Welcome to the 1st Asia Women Business Power Conference, organized by MIRC and to be held on 18th June 2009 at Technology Park Malaysia. Over 400 business leaders, CEOs and exceptional women will come together in the celebration of women entrepreneurs and their achievements. This conference features powerful and inspiring women entrepreneurs throughout the region and promises to be both inspiring and motivational to all participants. The event will provide insights to the business world from the eyes of women who lived through the rigors of tough economies, war and traditional mindsets and still made it through, now carrying wisdom and knowledge to share and success stories to tell. Speakers from Vietnam, Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Malaysia and Laos are expected to share their entrepreneurial journey and hard-earned wisdom under the auspices of the 1st Asia Women Business Power Conference."
Above is the promo ad in both banner and write-up for this recently concluded event. 1st in Asia and definitely not the last, our very own Janet Tan (2nd from right) from YourPartTime.com was also there to speak about "Growing Next Generation Talent".
As what has been written previously about networking, this is another excellent platform for all (that includes both men and women). Approximately 400 plus women (include several notable speakers) from various industries and different countries (namely Thailand and Laos) converge to a common mission - EMPOWER WOMEN IN BUSINESS. Similar conference like this holds the key in developing future generation in business, particularly within the female community.
GO WOMEN! =)

Networking: A Simple Way That Can Supercharge Your Employability
No, I am not talking about the social network sites like Facebook and Twitter that have become a phenomenon nowadays. I am simply talking about the networking among people face-to-face via networking events. Here, we will give you reasons why networking is so important to supercharge your employability:
Reason 1 – Build network
This may sound super obvious, but networking can build your network in lightning fast pace. You have the chance to meet new people of diverse interest and background. The more people you meet, the better your employability chance are. Attend talks, seminars, workshops and forums that interest you. Attend these activities. And, guess what? You will find people of similar interest over there and you can start mingling around and exchange ideas and opinions.
Reason 2 – Create opportunities
For employed workers or business owners, networking session is the perfect avenue to exchange name cards. You never know who you will bump into. Just grab the opportunity to mix around and share about anything under the sun. This can be very useful in the future if you decide to switch career. For job seekers (undergraduates or fresh graduates), treat this as another alternative to expand your horizon in every area. Anyway, you have nothing to lose since you are just starting off with your career.
Reason 3 – Personal branding
For job seekers/employee and employers alike, networking session is the place to build your own brand. Meaning to say, you let the public know about your associates and affiliates a little better. Therefore, for example when people start noticing you around talks and seminars in regards to IT technology, you will be branded as a tech enthusiast to them. Let them remember you the way you want to be remembered. You’ll never know what’s in store in the future.
Reason 4 – Exposure
Networking certainly can expose one to limitless opportunities besides the little things like self-learning. Going to events like Business Networking Event, BarCamp and TechNite (all supported by YourPartTime.com) will challenge your mindset to many things. As speakers and those sharing in these events are experts in their own field, one can receive first-hand exposure from the right people. Best part of it, most events like these come with absolutely no cost at all. This information is easily accessible via the Internet. You just have to spend some time doing research and you’ll be surprised on the many events that may spark your interest.
Reason 5 – Improve confidence
Certain event worth mentioning is BarCamp where you get the chance to express yourself in the public about anything at all. Dubbed the “Lighting Talk” where you can speak on anything at all, this will give you the opportunity to improve your confidence by expressing your thoughts constructively. You can try even organizing events like these to further enhance your confidence level. Building self-confidence has no shortcut. One has to work on it on a daily basis and the results seen later will be tremendous.

Job seekers: 7 Disastrous Moves To Avoid
With the demanding prospects of part-time and temporary jobs, job seekers have to work harder just trying to get a job because competition now is as fierce as ever. To avoid getting left out, we have compiled a list of disastrous moves to avoid while applying and trying to get a job:
#1. Incomplete/Incorrect details
This silly mistake is often overlooked. Important details like contact number and email address have to be real and valid. This is to ensure employers can reach you if they open your resume. Unforgivable mistakes like missing out a single digit of the mobile number is the last thing employers want to see. Therefore, double and triple check your details in your registered account in YourPartTime.com and elsewhere to avoid this dreadful mistake.
#2. Fake resume
This is another thing that simply cannot be accepted. Resume contained documents on how you sell yourself to employers. If you plan to cheat by listing fake details/experiences/expertise, it will be revealed one way or another. Employers for instance will not be very pleased to find a part-timer not knowing how to approach customers when it clearly state in his/her resume that he/she has numerous experience of being a promoter. This will also lead to a blacklisting of your own self. Employers will never ever be interested in you any way in the future.
#3. Recklessly apply for a job
This is simply bad behavior by job seekers. Before applying for a job, one must always check their own availability, the nature of work, the location and other relevant details to see if they fit the job description. Else, DO NOT apply for it. Imagine employers’ frustration when they call you to report for duty and you turn them down on petty things like the salary issues and unavailability to work. Again, you will be blacklisted as a job seeker that is not serious in seeking a job.
#4. Fail to turn up for the interview/briefing session
This is just plain ignorant. When you do this, you can forget about the getting the job. If you are going to be late, make sure you notify the respective employer necessarily. Do not make them assume you are coming and you fail to turn up. Worst still if they were to call you to enquire your whereabouts and you were still in bed due to a bad hangover from last night. Definitely a no no!
#5. Fail to turn up on the working day
This is disastrous! Giving a false hope to employers who trusted you to turn up is just plain evil. End of story. Employers, take note here: Always be prepared for this circumstance by getting at least 2-3 backup ready, just in case.
#6. Giving irrelevant excuses
“I forgot!”, “I woke up late” and “I got stuck in a heavy traffic” are some of the familiar lines which are NOT cool. Employers will brand these excuses irrelevant and unacceptable. You should be prepared for all these to happen beforehand. Failing to prepare is preparing to fail. Some job seekers even dare to give extreme and atrocious excuses like “My dog fell sick this morning” and “I can’t find a matching pair of shoes/socks”! You won’t be laughing at these statements if it did not happen.
#7. Complain too much
“Salary too low”. “Working hours too long”. “Unfriendly colleagues”. These are just some of the nagging and complaint from part-timers. You have to understand that the employers are just doing you a favor by hiring you part-time. Do not be over calculative. They have the right to fire you on-the-spot. Hence, try not to complain at anything and everything to avoid being the black sheep among your colleagues and employer.

6 Tips and Tricks To Get Any Job
With the daunting and bleak economy situation sweeping globally, one need to be on their toes constantly just to stay employed. With the correct strategy and mindset, one definitely need not worry about getting a job to escape this current predicament. Here, we have come out with several tips and tricks (T&T) for you to get any job you ever wanted:
T&T #1. Prepare a world-class resume
An ideal or world-class resume is a must for all job seekers actively seeking a job. You have got to be unique in the eyes of the employer. Often overlooked, this is your number 1 selling point. It is synonymous to the price tag for a shirt in a boutique outlet. Be colorful. Be wacky. Stand out from the rest by inserting a cover letter. However, the rule of thumb here is not to overdo and stick to the general public view on it by approaching close friends and relatives and get them to review your resume.
T&T #2. Post your resume everywhere
Even though it sounds redundant, not posting your resume everywhere is not going to land you a job. Be desperate about it. Sell/promote yourself like you really need it. Inform close friends, business people you met, relatives and etc about your desire to find a job every time. Post your resume in job sites, blogs, public forums, social network sites and even classifieds to increase your chances of being seen by someone. The law of average simply states that the more you try, the better your chances are.
T&T #3. Follow-up with employers
This is one thing that many if not all job seekers tend to overlooked. Following up with employers is crucial in determining your chances of nailing the job you dreamt of. Again, the rule of thumb to remember here is to follow-up immediately after the interview. “Thank you” note has to be sent out the day itself so that employers will feel appreciated and tend to remember you. Next, give them some time (approximately 3-4 days or a week depending on employers) and then follow-up again on your status. Always remind them to keep your application in view. With the right approach, chances are they will remember and subsequently hire you.
T&T #4. Attend job and career fairs
With abundant such fairs around nowadays, not attending these fair would be a waste. Career fairs like Malaysia Career & Training Fair (MCTF) in Mid Valley, MCA Job Fair in Wisma MCA and the most recent one Karnival Kerjaya & Keusahawanan Graduan in PWTC are excellent avenues to get expose to career opportunities. With nothing to lose and everything to gain, you never know that one day you might end up being a CEO for the company/organisation that you approached when visiting these fairs.
T&T #5. Participate in personal building workshops
